01 | In the Beginning: Genesis vs Science
Genesis is not necessarily about the How of our origins but rather the Who and the Why. It is not primarily addressing the questions of modern science. It is primarily confronting the beliefs of the ancient world in which it was written, and it is revealing that the God of the Bible is the one true God over creation who has a special plan for humanity.
10 | Basics: Forgiveness
Imagine what a difference it would make in our own families, in all of our friendships, in our communities and even in this country if all followers of Jesus would show the same level of compassion, kindness and forgiveness that our King has shown us?
09 | Basics: Generosity
Our generous giving helps to supply the needs of the Jesus movement to which we belong, and it proves the genuineness of our love towards others and our gratitude to God.
08 | Basics: Communion
Jesus took the most significant event in Israelite history and identified it with himself in order to institute a new kind of meal that fulfilled the old Passover. And he has commanded his followers to do this in remembrance of him.
07 | Basics: Love
Jesus confirmed that the Scriptures declare that we ought to love the Lord our God with all our heart and with all our soul and with all our strength and with all our mind, and love our neighbor as ourselves. Jesus said that if we are doing this then we will inherit eternal life in the eternal Kingdom of God.
06 | Basics: Proclamation
We don’t have to be seminary graduates who can preach the gospel with eloquence to share the good news about Jesus. All we need to start with is to be able to share our own short story of what Jesus has done in our life and the good news about who Jesus is.
05 | Basics: Prayer
Prayer is intended to be more relational than it is religious. We don’t need elaborate words, and we should never pray to exalt ourselves. Jesus has commanded his followers to pray humbly, to pray simply and to pray reverently. And he has provided the model we need to pray rightly.
04 | Basics: Baptism
Baptism is the symbolic act of uniting yourself with Jesus by participating in his death and resurrection. It outwardly demonstrates the inward transformative work of God that has given you a new life united to Jesus and reconciled to God.
03 | Basics: Repentance
During his time here on earth, Jesus went around proclaiming this message, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” To repent means to turn away from living life like you want to live it and turn to Jesus as your King and live under his authority over your life.
02 | Basics: Mission
Someone’s last words are a precious moment to highlight some of the most important things they want their loved ones to know and remember. In Jesus’ last words to his first followers, he gives what could be considered a summary statement of what Jesus-followers truly are and what Jesus-followers are expected to do.
01 | Basics: Message
To understand who we are, we need to understand where we fit in the one big story that the Bible is telling. If someone asked you to give them the main message of what the Bible is all about, could you do it? What would you say?
Marriage: Conflict Resolution
Every marriage experiences moments where grace and forgiveness are needed. One day your spouse will do something that hurts you. One day your spouse will wrong you in some way. One day a conflict will arise and some conflict will ensue.
